We have received a number of calls, emails, and messages regarding the newly released regulations and restrictions on American travel to Cuba. The main two questions have been: 1. Is Gardner Tours still authorized to operate in Cuba? and 2. Can US citizens still legally travel to Cuba?

After carefully combing through all 36 pages of the new laws imposed by the US government, we are happy to answer your legal questions about traveling to Cuba below.

Is Gardner Tours still authorized to operate in Cuba?

Yes! We are thrilled to announce that every travel option that we offer still qualifies us as an authorized organization! These new regulations and restrictions were set by the US government on June 5, 2019. Gardner Tours is legal and authorized to continue operation in Cuba because we “promote activities and opportunities intended to strengthen civil society in Cuba.” All of our tours “engage [our travelers] in a full-time schedule of activities that enhance contact with the Cuban people, support civil society in Cuba, promote the Cuban people’s independence from Cuban authorities, and result in meaningful interactions with individuals in Cuba.” Those words are directly from the new laws, thus this means that you may still book and travel to Cuba with Gardner Tours legally.

Can US citizens still legally travel to Cuba?

Absolutely! The United States government has updated their policies and have removed cruise ships and the “People-to-People” visa reason. However, you are still legal to travel under the “Support for the Cuban People” visa reason with Gardner Tours due to our modes of operation (see the italicized text above). Please understand that US citizens are only permitted to travel to Cuba under the “Support for the Cuban People” visa reason with an authorized organization.
